Breathless, the kids ran in to describe for us their attempts to rescue a neighbour’s guinea pig that had escaped when her hutch was destroyed in a recent storm. No one was more shocked than I, when they re-emerged an hour or so later, with a ball of fluff snuggly secured in their arms.

It turned out that this wee creature had managed to survive out of its hutch for an entire week before this rescue took place! The sparkle of resilience in her eye was quite a sight to behold. And the way she calmly settled right in to the arms that held her, was equally amazing to see.

This is her. She can’t roar. The best description I have for the sound she does make, is a chitter. But how’s that for courage?

To live courageously – quietly – and still survive elements that would terrify most tamed pets.

Sometimes courage doesn’t roar.

I think you know this.

I think you know that the courage you choose is so often, as Mary Anne Em Radmacher says, the choice to try again tomorrow.

So be encouraged: it counts.

Truly, it does.
